In Reveal, Rebecca Kamen unlocks curiosity as a creative link between the arts, humanities, and sciences, exploring the symbiotic relationship behind scientific research and artistic development.Interrelated sections chronicle her journey from a general interest in the human brain to her own brain tumor and post-surgical double vision, and on to the novel coronavirus, with a personal cabinet of curiosities serving as introduction. Featured are diaristic paintings; a Semantic Network Data Visualization created with scientists at the University of Pennsylvania; and intricate sculptures probing the brain’s complex systems, solar corona flares and the coronavirus, as well as their underlying Euclidian geometry. The exhibition culminates in the diaphanous Silent Spread, an installation of 28 COVID-19 inspired sculptures, and a companion breath composition by Shodekeh Talifero. Guided by the visual poetry of abstraction, Kamen coaxes opportunity from crisis, forging works that humanize scientific research while offering a dynamic model for both individual and societal inquiry and growth.
